Morrisons has posted its 22nd successive period of market share growth, according to TNS Worldpanel grocery data.
The grocery market share figures for the 12 weeks ending July 12, show Morrisons has increased sales by 9.5 per cent and market share rose 0.4 per cent to 11.6 per cent.
Asda’s sales growth of 8.1 per cent and Sainsbury’s growth of 7.7 per cent means they both gain 0.3 per cent to 17 per cent and 16 per cent respectively. Tesco’s growth over the same period is 5.7 per cent, leaving its share virtually unchanged versus a year ago at 30.8 per cent.
Waitrose posted another strong growth figure of 8.2 per cent, second only to Morrisons among the major grocers.
The growth of the discount grocers has slowed slightly again, although Aldi and Lidl remain ahead of the sector average.
Grocery figures from Nielsen show sales at multiples increased 6.6 per cent in the four weeks to July11, driven by strong sales in fresh foods, soft drinks and general merchandise.
