Harris Teeter, a grocery chain with 200 stores in eight states across the US, is piloting its own mobile wallet in a bid to make its drive-thru click and collect service faster.
The grocer is working with Paydiant, a cloud-based mobile wallet provider, on its pilot in North Carolina which began in August.
The wallet forms part of Harris Teeter’s Express Lane online shopping service, which is a drive-thru collection service for groceries ordered online. Shoppers who have downloaded the app and linked their payment card to it will be able to pay from their car by scanning a QR code presented to them on a Verifone handheld point of sale device, and tapping the ‘pay’ button. Shoppers are then emailed a digital receipt.
If the pilot is successful, the grocer will incorporate the mobile wallet platform into its existing mobile app.
Later this year Harris Teeter will accept other Paydiant-powered mobile wallets from banks and card issuers.
