Poundland is trialling contactless payment technology at two of its London stores.
Working with Commidea and Barclaycard, Poundland has upgraded the EPoS systems at its Dalston and Hammersmith stores to include contactless payment technology.
By holding a contactless-enabled debit or credit card against a reader, customers will be able to make payments of £10 or less without entering their PIN or signing.
The Poundland trial uses the Verifone QX110 contactless terminal. The solution, a managed service provided by Commidea, meets all PCI DSS compliance standards.
Poundland IT Services manager Mo Rahman said the trial will “enable us to offer alternative payment options and improved service levels, so that customers can purchase their goods quickly and conveniently.”
Payment card providers have been encouraging adoption of contactless payment technology as a method of speeding up small transactions.
Several major retailers have run contactless payment trials since the technology was introduced in 2007, but few have so far announced full roll-outs of the technology.
