Online giant Amazon is to import the Black Friday promotion from the US to the UK this year.

Black Friday, the discounting frenzy that follows Thanksgiving – traditionally celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November - is one of the biggest retail events in the US.

This year Amazon will run a week-long promotion in this country beginning on Monday 22, The Bookseller reported.

Amazon’s UK managing director Brian McBride said: “For many years, shoppers in the US have enjoyed massive savings on great products as a result of the Black Friday phenomenon.

“Amazon will replicate that activity for the benefit of customers here in the UK. There will be some fantastic savings on must-have items.”

Amazon will cut process across all product categories and there will be more than 200 limited-time deals.
