Amazon to open new UK fulfilment centre

The centre, which begins operating in September, will be run by a 900-strong workforce. Rugeley will be Amazon’s second new fulfilment centre in 2011 as it opens a 1 million sq ft site in Dunfermline before the end of the year.

Amazon vice president of operations Arthur Valdez said: “The centre at Rugeley will play an important role in fulfilling orders for customers in the UK, Europe and all over the world.

“We have a busy Christmas coming up and look forward to assembling a team of talented people who will play their part in ensuring that customers receive the millions of items that will be ordered over the festive season.”

The online giant has also launched its Amazon Europe Marketplaces Account which allow  Marketplace sellers to list their products across all its European websites using one seller account. Sellers have to pay £28.75 per month for the account.

The etailer has improved its ‘Fulfilment by Amazon’ service to help its sellers to trade across Europe. Products which have been put up for sale across all of Amazon’s European sites can be stored in a fulfilment centre in one country and distributed across Europe.
