Amazon.com became the latest high-profile website to go offline last night following Google’s outage last week.
The website was down for around 30 minutes according to reports. Vistors to the US site were greeted with a message saying: “Oops! We’re very sorry,” alongside a “500 Service Unavailable Error” report.
The retailer’s UK site was not affected by the issue, however its Canadian home page also showed an error message.
The outage is estimated to have cost Amazon over $66,000 per minute – or nearly $2m – based on Amazon’s 2012 sales.
Amazon’s crash follows Google’s two-minute outage last Friday, which led to a 40% plunge in worldwide internet traffic.
