Lingerie and sex toy retailer Ann Summers increased profits in its full year to June 2009 despite the wider financial crisis.

Operating profits rose 12.2% to £6.9m for the year while sales were static at £121m for the 144-store chain.

Ann Summers chief executive Jacqueline Gold said: “Our unique products are keeping customers satisfied. We look forward to even more pleasurable results in the coming year.”

Gold said that the retailer had invested more into its store and product ranges as well as made improvements to its website which it believes will buoy it figures in its current year.

The chain has also been expanding its “everyday” lingerie ranges to appeal more as a lingerie destination for women and grow its share in the sector.
