For those looking for more luxury, at£13,000 the top-of-the-range Finnlife Helsinki flatpack option includes five bedrooms, underfloor heating and laminate flooring and, according to the retailer, it can be built by two people in one to two days.
The home also boasts a “handy loft area for storage” and a decked terrace where the owners can sit and soak up the sun.
The 32ft by 16ft 10in Helsinki, made of Scandinavian whitewood, has double-glazed French doors, windows and a felt shingle roof.
Argos said the home is “supplied in kit form containing all the components and instructions required for self assembly”.
The catalogue listing also warns that “some cutting may be required” and advises customers prior to purchase to “check whether planning permission and building regulations approval may be required.”
The initiative by Argos and the house manufacturer Finnforest is not the first attempt by a mainstream retailer to bring build-your-own-homes to the European market.
Swedish retail giant Ikea came up with the idea for its BoKlok range of self-assembly homes in a joint venture with Swedish engineering and construction firm Skanska.
