Asda has appointed former Boots supply chain director Gavin Chappell as its supply director.
Chappell will take up his post on October 1, reporting to chief operating officer Andy Clarke, and will be based at Asda’s head office.
Chappell will replace Huw Edwards, who has moved to a newly created role as central procurement director. He also takes up his post on October 1 and will report to chief merchandising officer Darren Blackhurst.
An Asda spokeswoman said Edwards’ new role has been created to centralise all the buying processes and ensure the operation is as cost efficient as possible. She said Edwards would be working with all the procurement teams to work out best practice.
➤Asda clothing brand George has this week launched a heat-sensitive range of baby clothes that alerts parents when their baby is too hot. The TempAlert range features technology to notify parents of increased body temperatures, which is often an early sign of illness.
