The union is demanding national bargaining structures be put in place to cover pay, conditions and union facilities at the depots. It is also insisting that Asda pay staff an unpaid 2005 bonus of£300 per worker.
GMB members working at Asda distribution centres voted three to one in favour of strike action this Wednesday. The GMB has said it will take legal action if Asda employs agency staff during the strike.
The grocer has said that it will do everything 'lawfully possible' to ensure customers are not affected.
Depots affected include Bedford, Chepstow, Dartford, Didcot, Erith, Falkirk, Grangemouth, Ince George in Wigan, Lymedale in Staffordshire, Lutterworth in Leicestershire, Portbury in Bristol, Skelmersdale, Teesport, Wakefield and Washington.
