M&S boss Stuart Rose, chairman of the British Fashion Council, has renewed calls to retailers to back new designers.
Speaking at London Fashion Week, he admitted little has changed in that respect since he made a plea in February.
'I still believe there's a lot of logic in doing this,' said Rose.
One initiative, M&S's model bursary, paid for models such as Alexandra and Theodora Richards to fly to London. They had to perform at least one new designer catwalk show, helping to generate publicity.
