B&Q owner Kingfisher has revealed locations of the 31 stores it acquired from the administrators of Focus DIY after it collapsed earlier this month.

The DIY giant is waiting on the decision from the competition authorities before it knows how many of the 31 shops it can open under the B&Q banner.

The exact number it acquires also depends on “satisfactory negotiations with landlords”.

Kingfisher spent £23m on the stores within two days of the chain calling in administrators Ernst & Young, which last week appointed Gordon Brothers to liquidate the stock with a view to “closing down the chain”, as revealed by Retail-Week.com.

Focus Closing Down Sales are expected to begin this weekend, with 120 store closures likely to follow, putting 3,000 jobs at risk.

Kingfisher’s group chief executive Ian Cheshire said: “We hope to be able to bring B&Q’s choice, convenience and value to these communities as soon as possible.

“However, the final number of stores is dependent on clearance from the regulatory authorities and satisfactory negotiations with landlords.

“A swift conclusion to this process would enable B&Q to take on all the staff at these stores.”
