Baugur has formed a partnership with the London College of Fashion (LCF) to sponsor its graduate shows and offer students work placements, mentoring and guest lectures.
The Icelandic investor, which owns or has stakes in fashion retailers and brands including Whistles, Oasis, Matthew Williamson and All Saints, will kick off its partnership by sponsoring the BA Graduate show at the Royal Academy of the Arts on May 29.
Speaking at a press event today, Whistles chief executive Jane Shepherdson – the womenswear retailer in which Baugur has a controlling stake – said it was a “completely wonderful and appropriate link”.
Shepherdson said: “Baugur have long had a tradition of supporting education in Iceland.
She said it is “absolutely right” that the high street should support the venture.
The link-up, for an undisclosed sum, will allow Baugur to “showcase the designers of the future”, she added.
Baugur chief executive Gunnar Sigurdsson said: “We are proud to support an organisation that is constantly pushing the boundaries and setting the standard by which all others are measured.”
