MP Frank Field has asked Sir Philip Green to publish the Pensions Regulator warning letter that sought a resolution to the BHS pensions issue.

Field also reiterated concerns about the capabilities of the Pensions Regulator.

Field, chair of the Work and Pensions Committee, which investigated the controversial demise of BHS, made the request in a letter in response to one from Green yesterday.

‘Political football’

Green accused Field of “vindictive behaviour” and of treating him as a “political football” after the MP said he had “not done enough to hold on to his knighthood”.

This was despite Green having made a £363m voluntary contribution to settle the shortfall suffered by BHS pensioners.

In his reply, Field said Green’s settlement “was of course welcome” but that BHS pensioners would still only receive on average 88% of the benefits they expected.

BHS hit the buffers a year ago this week, less than a year after its sale for £1 by Green to Dominic Chappell’s Retail Acquisitions.
