Boots is to expand its drive-through pharmacy business on the back of soaring sales at its trial location.
The chemist is looking for opportunities to open more and is understood to want about 15 such stores over the next two years. The retailer is “discussing final terms” for a site in the North, which would be the second, said a property source.
Boots UK pharmacy director Andrew Caplan said: “Boots UK is leading the way for customers needing an accessible, professional and convenient health service to keep up with the pace of their busy lives and is continually exploring opportunities to deliver this further.”
The retailer opened its first drive-through in Colchester in August last year. The source said: “Colchester is going very successfully and Boots is keen to open more. It is looking at opening 15 in the next year or two.”
Another property industry source said: “Colchester is going fabulously well, and it’s an area Boots is actively seeking to develop.”
Boots is thought to be interested in some McDonald’s drive-through locations where there is spare land.
It is understood that the retailer has also looked at Burger King sites.
Drive-through pharmacies are common in the US, where there are about 3,000.
