Sports World has replaced Land of Leather at Prudential's Stour Retail Park in Canterbury, Kent, continuing the trend to shift bulky goods retailers off Open A1 retail parks.
Harvey Spack Field managing partner Russell Field said: 'It is a continuing trend because Open A1 people who have gone out of town have done extremely well.'
Land of Leather, which has relocated to a former Scottish Power unit at the nearby Riverside bulky goods retail warehouse scheme, received an undisclosed premium to part with its 10,000 sq ft (930 sq m) Stour Retail Park unit. Sports World is paying£22 per sq ft (£236 per sq m) for the space, formed originally when MFI downsized at the Kent scheme.
Healthy premiums are being paid to bulky goods retailers to vacate space, though many are reluctant to move, Field said.
Next has taken a 15-year lease on PowerHouse's former store at the Sixfield Retail Park in Northampton, Northamptonshire, at£21 per sq ft (£226 per sq m), joining JJB Sports, Boots, Mamas & Papas and Holiday Hypermarket.
At Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire TK Maxx recently replaced MFI and Furniture Village at Broadfields Retail Park, pushing up the top rent achieved on the scheme by almost 30 per cent, to£21.50 per sq ft (£230 per sq m).
In Canterbury, Kent, Chase & Partners represented Prudential, while Edgerley Simpson Howe acted on behalf of Sports World. Latham Yeomans advised Land of Leather.
