Outlet mall operator Realm has opened the latest phase of its Clarks Village scheme at Street, Somerset.
At 53,000 sq ft (4,925 sq m), the Phase VI development is bigger than the entire centre was when it opened its doors 10 years ago.
The new phase brings the scheme, widely regarded as the pioneer of outlet retailing in the UK, up to 180,000 sq ft (16,720 sq m) in 80 units.
Next has relocated within Clarks Village to a 14,000 sq ft (1,300 sq m) store, its biggest outlet branch, and Sports Soccer’s Donnay is the second anchor in the section.
The latest development also features the first Sony outlet branch, trading as Sony presented by Sonex, as well as new stores for Cadbury’s, Professional Cookware, Hallmark, Paper Mill Shop, Lee Cooper, Fat Face, Julian Graves, Virgin Cosmetics and Mountain Warehouse. Adidas is to take over the 6,000 sq ft (560 sq m) former Next store, with opening scheduled for October 2003.
Realm marketing director Steven Farrant said the latest phase was likely to be the last substantial development at Street, not least because the town’s 1,400 car parking spaces were close to capacity. However, he did not rule out infill development within the existing site, to plug gaps in the tenant mix.
- Realm has taken over the management of the Batley Mill outlet scheme in Yorkshire, on behalf of new owner Modus Properties. It will be Realm’s first third-party management contract - its existing five sites are all owned by parent company Hermes.
