Angry shoppers at Comet’s “liquidation Sale” have claimed that administrators have hiked up prices, according to The Sun.
One customer told the newspaper that the 3D TV he had been looking to buy was £1,349 before the electricals chain went bust earlier this month but was now priced at £1,400.
However, administrator Deloitte said that prices had not been raised but suppliers had been funding price promotions prior to Comet’s collapse at the beginning of the month.
It is understood that staff are being briefed today about the first closures of Comet stores.
Deloitte made 330 of the retailer’s staff redundant last week but so far no jobs at Comet’s 236 stores have been lost.
Discussions are ongoing with “a number” of parties interested in buying parts of Comet’s business. It is thought that online giant Shop Direct is interested in acquiring the brand.
