H Samuel owner Signet’s UK business broke even in its first quarter as like-for-likes increased 4.1% driven by fashion jewellery and bridal.
Total UK sales jumped 12.4% to $151.7m. Online sales jumped $2.3m to $7.8m over the quarter.
H Samuel like-for-likes rose 3.3% and total sales jumped 9.9% while sister company Ernest Jones likes-for-likes increased 5% and total sales soared 15.2%.
Adjusted operating income across the group, which includes its US business, surged 11.4% to $159.1m as total like-for-likes edged up 3.3%.
Signet chief executive Mike Barnes said: “Positive momentum at our UK division continued with same store sales of 4.1% and a significant improvement in profitability.”
“We were very pleased with our quarterly results, which were driven by the excellent execution of our associates and resilient customers who shopped our great merchandise offerings.”
