Research from Retail Week has found that 31% of UK shoppers planned to buy Christmas presents on Black Friday.
Research from Retail Week has discovered that 31% of UK shoppers interviewed say they planned to buy Christmas presents on Black Friday, while Tesco, Argos, Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s and Homebase are among the many retailers running promotions around the event.
The research forms the basis of a new interactive guide released today, produced by Retail Week and Microsoft, on the Christmas shopping habits of UK consumers. Click here to view the interactive guide.
Tesco expects Black Friday 2014 to exceed Boxing Day sales for the first time, and will offer discounts of up to 70%, while John Lewis’ online traffic was 14 times more than what the retailer experience on last year’s Black Friday between 7am and 8am.
Although some shoppers will be seeking bargains today, the research showed only 38% of those surveyed will delay Christmas spending to get a bargain in the Sales.
The guide also revealed which retailers will get the lion’s share of consumer spending this Christmas. Unsurprisingly, Amazon was a popular choice, with a staggering 63% citing the online giant among the top three retailers they will shop with this Christmas.
While shoppers fight it out for bargains, as these consumers did in Asda this morning, others prefer to shop online for Christmas, with the survey showing 84% of shoppers saying they will spend a proportion of their overall Christmas budget online this year.
