Early Sale fever comes to Knightsbridge
Retailers in London's Knightsbridge have gone on Sale early, with the majority offering half-price goods.

Shoe shops are one-step ahead in the race to go on Sale. Office and Walk started Sales last week and were offering up to 50 per cent off their assortment yesterday. Russell & Bromley launched its first discount day on Monday and it was packed with women on Wednesday fighting to get their hands on cheap designer shoes.

London landmark Harrods was holding a discreet Sale on certain items. Red banners were only visible in its side-windows - away from the bustling Brompton Road - offering 50 per cent off its womenswear collections, including coveted haute couture brands such as Lanvin.

Model Alex Best was among the crowds inside the shop, which was the busiest store in the upmarket area yesterday morning. In Harrods' memorabilia department, visitors were queuing to get their hands on branded bears.

At the other end of Knightsbridge, Harvey Nichols was not on Sale. Nevertheless, locals and visitors were queuing up to get inside when the trend-led store opened at 10 am. According to one sales assistant, the retailer's designer dresses and cruise collections are proving popular with the jet set crowd, including Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley, as they prepare to flee the capital to catch the winter sun.

Other fashion retailers were more varied. Kookaï, Mexx, Hobbs and FCUK were all on half-price Sale. Benetton, which started its Sale over a week ago, was displaying the largest discounts, with 75 per cent off its brightly coloured wool garments. However, H&M had only a small discount rail. Karen Millen was promising 20 per cent off its accessories, while its party frocks were full price.

Jeweller Swarovski was was full of shoppers, despite being one of the few retailers not on Sale.
