Data firm Dunnhumby, which helped set up Tesco’s Clubcard, is to pay a £17.5m dividend to be shared between Tesco and the husband and wife team that founded the business.
The two dividends of £10m and £7.5m will be split between the grocery giant and Dunnhumby founders Edwina Dunn and Clive Humby.
Turnover at the data company, which is 90% owned by Tesco, grew 17% to £199m in the year to February 28. Operating profits jumped 32% to £53.4m, according to accounts files at Companies House and seen by The Daily Telegraph.
Dunnhumby has been credited with transforming Tesco into a market leader after it started working on the grocer’s loyalty scheme in 1995, enabling Tesco to access millions of customers’ shopping habits.
