Danish variety store group Tiger is embarking on UK expansion and plans to open 20 shops in the next two years.
Tiger, which has 62 stores in Denmark, Iceland, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden, has six stores in the UK at present and wants another four to six in the next 12 months. The retailer sells “quality, inexpensive” homewares, toys, stationery, toiletries and accessories.
The retailer’s UK turnover rose from £1.3m to £2.1m in the year to August 31, and Tiger forecasts revenue of £4.5m for this financial year.
Tiger UK managing director Philip Bier said: “We appear to have fulfilled a need for well-designed products at astonishing prices.
“This has resulted in rocketing sales from day one when we opened our first store, in Basingstoke. Now we want to focus on the bottom line and profits.”
Tiger has shops in Basingstoke, Chelmsford, Ealing, Hammersmith, North Finchley and Wandsworth.
Bier added: “Our focus is London, there is plenty of expansion there, with room for at least 20 stores within two years. Once we’ve built up within London there’s no reason why we can’t go outside London.
“We are unique on the high street and offer good value in a fun shopping environment.”
All Tiger’s products are priced between £1 and £20.
