Department store group John Lewis is launching its in-store Christmas shops today (September 27) and has reported strong early interest in seasonal goods.
John Lewis said “demand for all things Christmas” has soared since the opening of its online store last month, “despite an unusual autumn heatwave”.
The retailer reported that sales of Christmas decorations are up 25% year on year and sales of Christmas lights are up tenfold.
Seasonal lines such as Quality Street, exclusive Disney products and items made of recycled materials are expected to do well. John Lewis is selling trees from £45 and has introduced a pick-and-mix bauble selection.
John Lewis Christmas buyer Lisa Cherry said: “The buying and design teams have collaborated to develop six unique and distinct Christmas themes, and we’re introducing Christmas tree workshops in-store to help guide and inspire.
”We’ve noticed that customers are definitely starting to shop earlier this year, planning for their traditions. This year we’re offering more in-store experiences, personalisation and products than ever before from much-loved brands.”
John Lewis will have Santa’s grotto in 10 stores from late November and Christmas markets in seven branches that will carry products from local companies.
