Department group Debenhams has named Matt Smith as chief financial officer.
Smith will join from Mothercare, where he held the same position.
He replaces Simon Herrick who left Debenhams at the start of this year after a Christmas profit warning and a row with suppliers over discounts, dubbed the ‘Santa tax’.
Debenhams did not give an exact start date for Smith, who will move “upon the satisfaction of his existing contractual obligations”.
Smith, who has been at Mothercare since since 2013, formerly worked for Home Retail Group where he was finance director of multichannel retailer Argos.
Debenhams chief executive Michael Sharp said: “We look forward to Matt joining Debenhams and to the benefits that his extensive experience of international and multichannel retailing will bring to our business.”
