Entrepreneur Mike Clare, who founded beds giant Dreams, has set up a new mid-to-high-end furniture retailer.
Stately Interiors, which opened its doors on December 27, sells “grand and unusual furniture” from its store in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. It plans two more stores this year.
Clare said Stately Interiors has notched up an “outstanding performance” in its first weeks.
The business was formerly called Trade Interiors, selling only to trade including interior designers, property developers and hoteliers. However, in December Clare rebranded to Stately Interiors when it began selling to customers.
Clare said the products “stand out from the competition and make a statement”. They are largely one-off pieces.
Clare sold Dreams to Exponent Private Equity in 2008 for about £200m, and runs s a range of businesses as part of his Clarenco group.
