DSGi chief operating officer Patrick Macdonald, who was due to take up his present role at the electricals retailer permanently, has joined only as a part-time consultant.
The former chief executive of John Menzies, who joined DSGi on May 1, had a “change of heart” and has taken up the role on a six-month contract.
A spokesman for DSGi, which last month announced it would close about 70 stores and save£50 million in overheads by next year, told The Daily Telegraph that Macdonald’s status at the retailer had changed.
He said Macdonald and chief executive John Browett “agreed that his [Macdonald’s] role is better focused on the short to medium term.”
