Products from Poundland’s sell-out wedding range are being sold on eBay at “considerably” inflated prices.
In a sign that cash-strapped shoppers are even scrimping and saving on the happiest day of their lives, wedding cake boxes have been sold for £2.99 – including postage – on the online auction site, which is three times its normal retail price.
Poundland chief executive Jim McCarthy said the new range – part of its revamped Celebrations category – “sold out almost immediately” in stores. Products from the range were then seen on eBay for “considerably more than we were selling them”.
The 212-store retailer launched Celebrations this month, including products for birthdays and weddings.
