Electricals and toys lifted sales over Christmas at Shop Direct Group.
Chief executive Mark Newton-Jones said: “Electrical products did well and toys also performed well, despite heavy discounting at Woolworths.”
Sales at the multichannel retailer grew 9 per cent in the six weeks to January 2 as shoppers took advantage of later delivery dates offered online. Sales through its website soared 44 per cent for the period and online now generates 56 per cent of the group’s total sales.
Newton-Jones said his focus would be to “keep momentum through fragile consumer confidence”. He said the January Sale was going reasonably well.
Shop Direct has also hired people director Jacquie Humphries, who joins this week from Marks & Spencer.
