Research by electricals giant Currys reveals that 36% of Brits are likely to purchase secondhand tech while shopping on Black Friday and for Christmas.
The research also shows that 32% of British customers surveyed are likely to buy refurbished tech compared to the 19% who are likely to buy secondhand clothes.
The key driver behind the increase in interest in reconditioned tech is environmental concerns – 75% of respondents are worried about e-waste.
A further 47% said buying refurbished tech would help them save money, and 34% are likely to buy secondhand tech from a well-known retailer.
Currys is using its own repair and refurbishment facility to extend the lifespan of used tech and has announced discounts across its refurbished phones to encourage customers to keep this tech in circulation.
The retailer also launched a pre-Black Friday event dubbed Green Friday, where customers can save money on energy-efficient appliances and refurbished tech.
