Famous record store Rough Trade is to open its first overseas store in New York in the autumn.
The store will open in in the trendy area of Williamsberg in Brooklyn.
The shop will feature a live performance area for in-store gigs, in partnership with The Bowery Presents, a New York promotions company.
The tie-up enables the store to turn into an “intimate live music venue” at night.
The original Rough Trade store in west London opened in 1976, later spawning the famous record label of the same name. Rough Trade East opened in the east London in 2007, which the retailer has called a “dramatic success”.
Rough Trade co-owner Stephen Godfroy: “At long last, we can finally confirm the next bold step in our evolution.”
Rough Trade NYC will be accompanied by a US version of the new, soon to launch, roughtrade.com online store, which will offer MP3 downloads alongside CD and vinyl.
