Arcadia dealt fresh blow as Topshop trading boss quits

Mooney has spent his career at the fashion group, joining Burton’s training scheme before going on to become its head of merchandising.

He moved to Topshop/Topman in 2008 as merchandise director, before becoming Topshop trading director in 2014.

Retail Week understands Mooney does not yet have a new role to go to.

One industry source said Mooney has had “an incredible” career and insisted he had “a bright future” ahead of him despite his exit. 

Mooney’s departure is the latest in a string of high-profile exits from Green’s Arcadia group.

The most noteworthy is that of Topshop managing director Mary Homer, who left to take the helm at the White Company.

Speculation has been mounting as to who will replace her, with former Topshop and Asos director Caren Downie and Oasis Warehouse chief executive Liz Evans tipped as potential successors.

Prior to Homer’s departure, Evans boss Fiona Ross, Burton managing director Wesley Taylor and Miss Selfridge creative director Yasmin Yusuf also left their roles.

The departures have prompted speculation that the empire run by Sir Philip Green, who is already under fire for his role in the BHS scandal, is under severe pressure.

Arcadia is yet to respond to Retail Week’s requests for comment.
