Burberry has appointed former Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci as its chief creative officer, replacing Christopher Bailey.
Tisci will join the British luxury brand on March 12 and will present his first collection for the brand in September.
Tisci spent 12 years as creative director at Givenchy, where he worked with current Burberry chief executive Marco Gobbetti.
Gobbetti joined Burberry from Céline last year, taking over from Bailey, who at the time held both the chief creative and chief executive roles. Bailey bowed out last month with a final collection at London Fashion Week celebrating LGBTQ+ communities with a rainbow reworking of its classic check.
Gobbetti said: “Riccardo is one of the most talented designers of our time.
“His designs have an elegance that is contemporary and his skill in blending streetwear with high fashion is highly relevant to today’s luxury consumer. Riccardo’s creative vision will reinforce the ambitions we have for Burberry and position the brand firmly in luxury.”
Tisci added: “I have an enormous respect for Burberry’s British heritage and global appeal and I am excited about the potential of this exceptional brand.”
