Concern for Peacocks grows as one bidder remains

Indian apparel and textile firm S Kumars Nationwide is the last remaining bidder for the retailer which fell into administration last month, according to The Sun.

Edinburgh Woollen Mill was one of four suitors that were in the running but it pulled out of the process last week. Other bidders were thought to include textiles tycoon Alshair Fiyaz, who had teamed up with Danish investment fund Solstra Capital.

Meanwhile, south Wales Labour MPs spoke with Peacocks’ administrators KPMG last Friday, according to the organisers of the Save Peacocks campaign.

Labour MP for Cardiff West Kevin Brennan led the talks, reiterating pleas to a potential buyer to save jobs, keep the company’s headquarters in Wales and ensure a sound financial structure for the business.

In a February 10 letter to the Save Peacocks campaign, MP Brennan stated: “The message we passed to the administrators as a group of South Wales Labour MPs when we had a conference call with the administrators i.e. save jobs, keep HQ in Wales, get a buyer who wants to run the company as a going concern with a sound financial structure.”
