Blacks has received strong interest from potential bidders ahead of today’s deadline for offers to buy the struggling retailer.

Edinburgh Woollen Mill has emerged as a surprise potential buyer of the outdoors chain according to The Independent.

Edinburgh Woollen Mill has a record of buying distressed retailersand acquired fashion retailer Jane Norman out of administration this summer.

Others interested in Blacks are thought to include Mountain Warehouse, Go Outdoors, Sports Direct and Cotswold Outdoor.

Likely bidders have indicated they are willing to take on the majority of Blacks stores but a pre-pack administration looks likely so they can pick up the business free of liabilities.
