Online fashion specialist Asos is examining the possible sale of the Topshop brand, which it bought three years ago, as boss José Antonio Ramos Calamonte seeks to turn around the core business.

Asos is reportedly considering the sale of Topshop

Asos is only at an early point in considering whether to press the button on a sale of Topshop and a deal may ultimately not go ahead, Sky News reported.

Any valuation that might be put on Topshop is unclear.

Asos, which will post delayed results this week, bought Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge and HIIT out of the administration of Sir Philip Green’s Arcadia fashion empire in 2021.

Asos hoped the Topshop deal would power its growth in the US, where it struck a partnership with department store group Nordstrom to build the brand and its own presence.

It is not clear whether any talks are already under way with potential buyers for Topshop, but a formal sale could catch the eye of those interested in buying the brand after Arcadia’s collapse.

Ted Baker owner Authentic Brands Group, Frasers, JD Sports and Next might be among those interested in the event of a sale.

Asos told Sky News it does not comment on rumour or speculation.
