Two of Europe’s largest fashion retailers Inditex and H&M have taken their first steps into new growth markets this week; with Inditex opening its first store in India and H&M announcing its first opening in Turkey.
Inditex, which owns chains including Zara and Massimo Dutti, has opened a Zara store in the Indian capital Delhi and in the coming weeks will open a store in Mumbai and a second outlet in Delhi.
Inditex has gone into India in a joint venture with the Tata Group.
Swedish fashion group H&M has also announced its first steps into Turkey with a 2,300sq m store opening in Istanbul in November.
H&M chief executive Karl-Johan Persson said: “We are very pleased to open our first store in Turkey. It is an interesting market with a large, young and fashion conscious population, which offers great potential for future expansion.”
