Jigsaw parent company Robinson Webster Holdings reported a loss of £7.3m in the year to October 3 2009, almost double the £3.7m loss recorded the previous year.

Robinson Webster Holdings, which runs womenswear retailers Jigsaw, Kew, Cabbages & Roses and multi-brand designer store The Shop at Bluebird, blamed the widening losses on currency fluctuations, deeper discounting and disposal of excess stock during the recession.

According to figures filed at Companies House, group turnover was largely flat at £77m, compared with £76.9m in 2008.

The company said there had been a “significant turnaround” since the year end but declined to give current figures. The group said in March that like-for-likes in February were up 5.5% for Jigsaw and 14.1% at Kew.

Jigsaw, which has 45 stores, said it remains committed to opening further stores on the east coast of the US.
