New Look has appointed John Gildersleeve as its new chairman, who will take up the role in January replacing Phil Wrigley who will stand down after nine years at the fashion retailer.
The Carphone Warehouse non-executive chairman joins the group ahead of its likely return to the stock market. Gildersleeve is also on the board of British Land and was previously on the board at Tesco.
New Look chief executive Carl McPhail said: “The board and I are delighted to welcome John as non-executive chairman of New Look. John has extensive experience as a board director of international businesses, and we are very excited that he is joining our team. This announcement marks part of a planned transition in the next phase of New Look’s development. On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Phil for his significant and valued contribution over the past nine years. Phil will remain a close friend of New Look and we wish him every success in the future.”
Gildersleeve added: “I am excited to be joining New Look, a vibrant and leading fashion retailer with a great brand and an impressive track record. The company has exciting growth potential, both in the UK and abroad, and I look forward to working closely with Carl and his team to help achieve this.”
New Look is expected to float on the stock exchange early next year and has appointed Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank and J.P Morgan Cazenove to examine the possibility of an IPO.
