SuperGroup has installed Nick Wharton as its permanent chief financial officer after a period in the role in an interim capacity.

Wharton had been in the role since February. He had joined the fashion group from Dunelm, where he was chief executive.

SuperGroup’s former finance boss Shaun Wills had left the business after being declared bankrupt.

His bankruptcy has since been annuled by the courts and Wills has been appointed as chief financial officer at womenswear retailer Jacques Vert.

Chartered accountant Wharton spent eight years at Halfords in finance and strategy roles, including leading its spin-off from former owner Boots, and has also held senior finance roles at Boots Opticians, Boots Healthcare, now defunct DIY retailer Do-It-All and Cadbury Schweppes. He has been a non-executive director of Mothercare since November 2013.

Supergroup chairman Peter Bamford said Wharton has had a “highly positive impact” during his interim tenure. “His deep financial management skills and broad retail and business experience will be great assets to Supergroup.”
