Ted Baker has expanded into taller ranges and cycling clothes as boss Ray Kelvin said there is potential to extend its brand further.
Kelvin said: “There’s a lot more things up Ted Baker’s sleeves. We could moving into anything that feels like a natural extension.”
The retailer launched its T for Tall range last month online, which fits 6’3 to 6’6ft men, and cycling wear range ‘Raising the Handle Bars’.
Kelvin said its tall range was developed after listening to “my friend”, British swimmer Mark Foster. He said the range, available on its website, would appeal to taller shoppers because of its design.
“Tall people don’t want ugly clothes. This is tall and stylish,” he said.
The retailer also launched its new audio range this week, which Kelvin said he hoped would be a big seller this Christmas.
Meanwhile, in a week when Next boss Lord Wolfson said that the unseasonably warm weather was hitting fashion sales, Kelvin said Ted Baker was not feeling the effects. He said its big international business, which accounts for 30% of sales, insulated it in part.
However he said: “If it’s still like this in December, we’ll be in trouble.”
Ted Baker’s half-year profits jumped by 24.2% while salesjumped by 17.4% to £182.2m.
Kelvin said product had driven its stellar performance.
Sales across UK and Europe, US and Canada, and Asia increased by 15.1%, 13.8% and 16% respectively
Ted Baker now trades in 35 countries. Kelvin said his plan was to expand in its existing markets. He pointed out that it still only had 17 stores in the US.
