Tesco is understood to have extended the consulting role of John Hoerner, its former head of its clothing division.
According to the Financial Times, Hoerner had been brought in to advise on the international sourcing of Tesco’s non-food products.
He is understood to have carried out several consulting assignments for chief executive Philip Clarke when he was head of Tesco’s international operations.
When he took over as chief executive, Clarke said that its UK non-food performance had been below par. UK chief executive Richard Brasher also said last week that the grocer was planning something for non-food to come before Christmas.
Hoerner, who helped build Tesco’s clothing business, may also be advising on its fashion. Last week its clothing head Richard Jones left to take up a position at Irish grocer Dunnes.
Tesco today kicked off its £500m price cuts on thousands of lines, including some non-food products.
