Global fashion giant Uniqlo has today announced the appointment of a new creative director at the business.
British stylist and fashion designer Clare Waight Keller has joined Uniqlo as creative director, bringing experience from her “exceptional career with a number of leading fashion houses” to the retailer’s team.
Waight Keller previously worked as artistic director at several luxury fashion houses, including the likes of Givenchy and Chloé.
During her career she also designed the wedding dress of Meghan Markle for her wedding to Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex in 2018 and was named in the annual list of most influential people of the year by Time magazine in 2019.
Waight Keller first joined forces with Uniqlo in September last year when she led the design of the Uniqlo: C womenswear project.
In her new role she will lead Uniqlo’s mainline collection, including menswear, from the autumn/winter 2024 season.
Waight Keller said of her appointment: “Working with Uniqlo over these past two years, I have been hugely impressed by their innovation and ability to create exceptional products.
“Working with the team, I became deeply immersed in the brand and the future they are creating. It is very exciting and an honour for me to be involved in the evolution of LifeWear.”
Uniqlo parent Fast Retailing president and chief executive Tadashi Yanai said: “We are proud to welcome Ms. Clare Waight Keller as the creative director of Uniqlo.
“Along with her exceptional originality and wide-ranging experience, I have been impressed by her excellent sense of balance, which never forgets the perspective of the consumer.
“I believe that with her, we will be able to evolve LifeWear, the ultimate everyday wear, into something even richer and create clothes that will make our customers even happier.”
