Amazon’s design director has left the business after just 10 months to join Warehouse in the same role.
Karen Peacock will take over from Emma Cook, who overhauled Warehouse’s aesthetic after joining the retailer following 15 years running her own label.
Peacock joined Amazon from M&S, where she was head of design for womenswear and accessories from 2012 to 2016.
Prior to that, she was womenswear design director at Debenhams from 2002 to 2012.
Peacock will officially join Warehouse later this month.
News of her appointment emerged just days after Warehouse’s Icelandic owner Kaupthing scrapped plans to sell the brand, along with sister retailers Oasis and Coast, to Emerisque brands, after mooting a sale in November last year.
Sources close to the situation told The Sunday Times that Kaupthing believes it can “drive more value” from the chains following a “very strong” first half for the businesses.
As a group, Oasis, Warehouse and Coast are understood to have delivered like-for-like sales growth of 4.9% during the six-month period.
Kaupthing chief executive Paul Copley said: “We feel that the market does not currently recognise the value we see in the businesses. We are under no pressure to sell the brands and we look forward to working with their management team to generate value for our stakeholders.”
