Privately owned department store chain Fenwick has acquired Colchester department store Williams & Griffin.
Fenwick has bought the whole issued share capital of HE Williams & Company, which owns the store, for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition will be Fenwick’s 11th department store chain, two of which trade as Bentalls.
Fenwick chairman Mark Fenwick said: “Williams & Griffin is a good strategic fit for Fenwick and will sit well with our portfolio.”
Jonathan Christie, who will remain managing director of Williams & Griffin, said: “This acquisition guarantees that the company will continue to go forward and invest in the store and the staff.”
Williams & Griffin has been owned by the Irish family company since the 1960s.
