Retail Week looks ahead to the next seven days, with updates from  M&S, Kingfisher, Halfords and Pets at Home on the agenda

Halfords

The specialist retailer will report its final results on Tuesday, May 22. Halfords, which saw new boss Graham Stapleton joined the retailer at the beginning of the year, reported an uplift in Christmas sales but cautioned that the trading environment remains subdued.

Pets at Home

The pets retailer will post its annual results on Tuesday. Pets at Home’s services division has been going from strength to strength while, since lowering prices, the retailer has seen a bounce back in store sales. It will be the first outing for boss Peter Pritchard, who was promoted from within.

Topps Tiles

The tile specialist will report its interim results on Tuesday. Topps Tiles has found the market challenging recently. Like-for-like sales inched up in its half year but were down 2.2% in the second quarter.

Marks & Spencer

The retail behemoth will post its annual results on Wednesday, May 23. Analysts expect Marks & Spencer to report increased pre-tax profits after investment decimated the bottom line last year but restructuring costs may yet hit. Observers will be searching for signs that M&S can execute sustained improvement.

Shoe Zone

The footwear retailer will report its interim results on Thursday, May 24. Shoe Zone reported a dip in profits and sales at its last update, prompted by Brexit headwinds and planned store closures.

Kingfisher

The DIY giant will post its first quarter trading update on Thursday. Kingfisher may well have been badly affected by a poor start to spring as shoppers put off home and garden improvements. The business’ profits declined at its last update, dragged down by business disruption and a “softening market” in which B&Q sales fell.
