Retail Week looks ahead to the next seven days, with updates from Capetright and John Lewis Partnership on the agenda, as well as the Retail Week Be Inspired conference.
Carpetright
The specialist will report its final results on Tuesday, June 26. Carpetright has endured a torrid year including profit warnings and a CVA. It has now secured the £60m it needs to fund its restructuring costs via a share issue. Carpetright management hopes shedding 92 stores from its 418-strong estate and cutting the rents on another 113, along with increased investment in its proposition, will allow it to survive intense market competition from rival Tapi and the current consumer downturn.
JLP
The John Lewis Partnership will reveal its strategy for the next 10 years on Wednesday, June 27. John Lewis will outline its ‘It’s Your Business 2028’ plan covering focus and growth. Chairman Sir Charlie Mayfield, group finance director Patrick Lewis, Waitrose boss Rob Collins and John Lewis boss Paula Nickolds will all be present. John Lewis’ market-beating formula has been put to the test recently and management will be looked to for a new gloss on its established strategy.
Be Inspired
Retail Week’s annual Be Inspired conference will take place on Wednesday. Be Inspired aims to enable women to reach their full career potential and this year’s conference features Notonthehighstreet.com co-founder Holly Tucker, Ann Summers boss Jacqueline Gold, M&S clothing and home director Jill McDonald and comedians Deborah Frances-Wright and Rachel Parris.
