November 9-13, 2015: Retail Week looks ahead to the next seven days, with updates from Kingfisher, Sainsbury’s and Halfords all on the agenda.
Kingfisher
The DIY group hosts a capital markets day in Dublin on Tuesday. Analysts will be guided through the group’s recently piloted unified IT platform – the first large-scale project launched as part of its ‘One Kingfisher’ plan.
Retail sales
The British Retail Consortium releases its retail sales monitor for October on Tuesday. Last month, like-for-like sales rose at the fastest rate since January 2014, owing to the inclusion of the late bank holiday in the month’s figures. Retailers were also boosted by an increased demand for party food as a result of the Rugby World Cup, which concluded on October 31.
Sainsbury’s
The supermarket giant unveils its interim results on Wednesday, having voiced confidence that full-year profits would be “moderately ahead” of expectations. The grocer said sales volumes and transactions both increased during its second quarter, although like-for-likes dipped 1.1%.
Halfords
The cycling and automotive parts retailer reports interims on Thursday. All eyes will be on boss Jill McDonald who is expected to outline her strategy for the retailer’s cycling division after an unscheduled trading update in September revealed an 11% slump in like-for-likes for that arm.
