Debenhams was scheduled to run an analysts’ visit to Copenhagen as Retail Week went to press to demonstrate its integration of Danish department store Magasin du Nord.
The retailer, which acquired the six-store chain in November for £12.3m, has begun the process of taking its own-brand labels, such as Red Herring, into Magasin shops to benefit margins and create infrastructure synergies.
Following last year’s £323m capital raising, Debenhams is expected to forge ahead with overseas expansion via acquisitions and partnerships with retailers, such as selling its brands in Dutch department store Vroom & Dreesman.
At its half-year results last month Debenhams said that Magasin du Nord had “performed in line with internal expectations”.
Debenhams is expected to show analysts the results of its integration plan, which includes margin expansion through increasing the proportion of own-bought sales by introducing more of Debenhams’ own brands, leveraging Debenhams’ buying infrastructure and lowering prices. Debenhams also expects to introduce a multichannel offer in Magasin.
