WHSmith said that it expects full year figures to be in line with market expectations.
In a pre close statement, the stationery and books retailer said its travel business “continues its good performance and is making further progress in winning new business in the international channel”.
It added that its high street division’s “focus on gross margin gains and tight cost control continues to deliver a solid performance”.
WHSmith said: “Both businesses remain highly cash generative. Accordingly WHSmith expects the outcome for the year to August 31 to be in line with market expectations.”
The retailer also revealed that Simon Marinker, managing director of the travel arm, will be retiring in December after 34 years at the business.
Simon Smith, chief operating officer of the travel business, will replace Marinker, and will report directly to chief executive Kate Swann.
Marinker will continue to remain involved with the business as a consultant.
WHSmith reveals its preliminary results for the year ending August 31 on Thursday October 13.
